Technical support manager, CIST S.A. Costa Rica 2002-present

I’ve worked for 5 years as network manager in charge of 5 technicians, doing some oracle-linux migration at the begin, giving support to the company software, and doing help desk to different buildings with apps, network and security issues.

With the time the role of the company changed, an it push me to work as a network administrator for a call center with 500 employees, handling the core, routers, switches, wireless, VLAN, HP and dell servers, storages like NAS and SAN, designing an mantaining the high availability systems (Raid Array, hot swap, redundancy, fiber channel, HBA, load balancing), working with database infrastructure (creating backups and process automation using Python and bash scripting, calculating hardware resources, monitoring, and some others db troubleshooting related with hardware, OS, network and performance issues) helping to the DBP, I’m on charge of the core security too, firewalls, IDS, IPS, VPN, perimeter routers, cryptography, and so on, mitigating issues like intrusion, D.O.S. and traffic control, even organizing jobs and activities with providers or external technicians.

DevOps for the Main company: I do support, specially for developers, keeping the system of the company working, assisting to webmaster, developers, and graphic designers, creating and maintaining the web sites, installing OS, cetificates, DBs like mysql, postgres, Oracle, web services like tomcat or Resin, Interpreter like PHP or php-fpm, web services like apache or nginx, and troubleshooting network and performance issues with them. Installing those servers locally, in a datacenter, VPS, or in Amazon AWS instances, securing those sites with local resources or using security companies like cloudflare.

I was the network administrador of the complete hosting system, on charge of two computer technicians, most of the job was installing, configuring and administrating the system with linux and windows, running hosting services like DNS, SMTP, IMAP, POP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSH (apache and IIS), MYSQL, and others, for 10 different sites. installation and administration of the devices like cisco routers, VLAN, IDS sensors, IPS and linux firewalls, to configure, monitoring and to improve the security using tools like network scanners, auditing tools, sniffers and others, vpn, encrypting tunnels.

My challenge there was to work for a medical project with people from Spain, installing and administrating a system called modulab ( automation system to handle medical labs, data acquisition and analysis of medical tests like blood test, chemical test, urinalysis test), working with private and public hospitals, coordinating the use of the system with all the professionals involved, a demanding job.
